Scicli, contrada Calamarieri, set on the navigator, and now let’s enjoy this trip on a beautiful May afternoon.

I landed at three at the airport and after a brief stop at the hotel, I rented an old yellow convertible Beetle. A book on the seat, sunglasses, headscarf on my head and off to the southern coast of the island.

The mobile phone invites me to turn right and not without emotion my visit begins.

The dirt driveway is surrounded by dry stone walls behind which some fruit trees are cultivated, there are plots of land at this time uncultivated for about 25,000 metres, there are fruit trees and olive trees and I can already imagine it as a large green garden in which to spend my time, the walls widen out and I can park in a square. To my right, the main structure is on two levels, a ground floor with direct access to the yard and a mezzanine floor. There is a main building currently divided into a kitchen, a living room with a fireplace and two rooms from one of which the loft can be accessed. A series of similar one-two-room constructions, with different heights that make the view more lively and pleasant, are attached to the main one; they were former warehouses, stables and accessory rooms. On the opposite side we find the garage with bathroom and store room and a rustic cottage.

This farmhouse needs to relive its former glory, keeping alive its original spirit with exposed stones and, if possible, the canniccio of the roof, which is a real eye-catcher. The spaces need to be reviewed and rethought but the potential is already visible even to the untrained eye.

Now I get back in the car, the setting sun has reminded me that you cannot have arrived in Sicily without having dived into the wonderful sea, today I will go to the quiet tower of the financier and I will see you again when you invite me to the garden at the inauguration of this jewel that you have secured.
