The cypresses that in Bólgheri tall and frank
Van from San Guido in double filar,
Giant young boys are almost in the running
They jumped up to me and looked at me. ”
For our trip to Bolgheri today, we retrace the spectacular Viale dei Cipressi, the street that was the inspiration for the work of Giosuè Carducci.
This little gem of the province of Livorno is located in the hinterland of the Etruscan Coast, in the center of the Tuscan Maremma, in a hamlet of the municipality of Castagneto Carducci.
What we are going to do today is a real journey backwards, between ancient palaces, castles and surrounding walls.
You are ready to pass the entrance door to the Tower with me. From a passage in the Castle of Bolgheri we can reach the main square, where there is the chapel of San Guido also made famous by the poet. Around us the stone stairs move the houses that have remained unchanged over time, while the geraniums shade sleepy cats. From here there is a welcoming center made of small houses in stone and red bricks that alternate with shops and wine shops.
The apartment that we are ready to visit overlooks the square and enjoys the view of the Castle and the Tower, but fear not, the atmosphere we breathed wandering through these alleys has not been forgotten in the renovation by two Florentine architects in the 90s. While maintaining the original layout, they managed to obtain a living area divided between a dining area with kitchenette, and a relaxation area, two large bedrooms and two bathrooms from a 75 sq.m apartment. The tradition respected in the roof with exposed oak beams, the Impruneta terracotta floors, the door sills and the steps in sandstone, and the fireplace harmonize and naturalize in a marriage between the new and the ancient with the furniture designed by the architects themselves and handcrafted ceramics. The only structural changes necessary were the openings of several skylights that made the apartment much brighter.
This quiet and healthy place will be perfect to spend long periods of vacation thanks to its proximity to the beaches of Donoratico.
